Humans are social beings, and we all need to form relationships in our lives in order for it to be more fruitful and meaningful. Don’t let the word relationship fool you, these aren’t just romantic relationships we’re talking about. In this article, we’re going to discuss the 5 different types of relationships you need to have to make your life a healthier, more balanced one!

1. Strong friendships

Creating a strong friendship with even at least one person can, perhaps, be the most important relationship you’ll ever have in your life. Your friends will be your main support group and will also hold you accountable for your actions.

Your friends will heavily influence who you are, what your likes and dislikes may be, and what your belief system will be like.

2. Your family

At the end of the day, your family will always be there for you, no matter what. In your triumphs and failures, your highs and lows, your family will be with you through them all. And much like your friends, your family is the one who will help mold your ideas and core values. When you’re facing a tough decision, you know your family can help guide you through it and weigh each of the choices you have.

3. A mentor

Another key relationship to form! There’s so much to learn in life, and this would not be possible if without the presence of mentors. The older we get, the more we realize that there’s so much we still don’t know. Mentors are there to guide us and to offer us insight which we can use to steer us in the right direction. While they may not be our friends per se, they care for us all the same.

4. A mentee

When we get older, we need to pass on the knowledge and training we’ve learned to someone else. But this kind of relationship can only work if the recipient, i.e., the mentee, is willing to receive the knowledge. You have to be able to have open communication with your mentee and discuss availability, expectations, and what you have to offer to establish a good sense of trust between yourselves. It’s only with this trust that this relationship can blossom and grow.

5. Yourself

At the end of the day, there’s really no one else you can count on as you can yourself. We spend so much time building relationships with others that often, we forget to build one with ourselves. Take time to care for the relationship you have with yourself, too. Pay attention to the thoughts you have about yourself: are they positive or negative? How do you feel about your body? Your talents? Your goals and ambitions? It’s important to give as much love to yourself (or maybe even more!) as you give everybody else.

As we navigate through the confusing although exciting chapters that make up life, we hope you remember the importance of relationships in our lives.
