Diet Fads Making Rounds Around Social Media
Yes, we can never be richer. Or thinner. So, our quest to be thinner goes on. And social media has become a platform for abs, butts, and diet fads. And we can’t help but get swayed. And, why not, right? We can still be thinner!
Let’s get to it and break down the 3 weight-loss diets our friends keep on posting.
Intermittent Fasting. IF for short. It’s basically putting a clamp on your eating for a certain number of hours. It cycles your body between fasting and eating. There’s the 16/8 method that means you eat for eight hours and fast for 16 hours a day. The eat-stop-eat method that requires you to fast for 24 hours a day twice a week. The 5:2 diet means you restrict eating for two days and resume for 5 days. Whatever your choice is, IF has been shown to cause weight loss and significantly reduce inflammation. Personally, I saw friends losing weight through IF but go back to their original weight after they get off it.
The Vegan Diet. This restricts animal products and is known to be the stricter form of vegetarianism. In addition to eliminating meat, it eliminates dairy, eggs, and animal-derived products like gelatin, honey, albumin, whey, and some forms of Vitamin D. A former officemate went vegan not only because she wanted to live a healthy life but she is ferociously against animal cruelty. It’s eating clean that delivers weight loss because of caloric deficit.
The Ketogenic Diet. It’s a low-carb, high-fat diet that shuns all kinds of carbohydrates. Studies show that it has benefits against diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease. It has similarities to the Atkins diet and reducing carbs puts the body in a metabolic state called ketosis. When this happens, the body becomes efficient in burning fats.
Family and friends who adopted these diet plans lost weight astoundingly. A good 70 percent of them though go back to their original weight once they get off their diet. A lesson to be learned, aim for sustainability. A diet isn’t a phase and it goes beyond the food you eat. It’s a lifestyle.
