Some people rush to the doctor at the first signs of a looming sickness--a slight cough or a day's worth of sniffle--others, however, are more reluctant to take a trip to the hospital.
But how do you tell when it's time to go to the doctor? Here are 10 subtle signs your body is telling you to seek medical help!
1. You can't stop sneezing
If you've been sneezing non-stop for more than a week, it's time to consult a doctor. Sneezing is often one of the first signs of allergies or a cold, but it can also be indicative of other sinus problems.
2. You develop lumps and bumps on your body
If you notice any new lumps or bumps on your body, it's important to pay attention. While most of the time these lumps are benign, they could also be a sign of something more serious.
If the lump is hard and unmovable, feels warm to the touch, or is accompanied by other symptoms like fever or weight loss, it's important to see a doctor right away. However, if the lump is soft and movable, doesn't seem to be causing any pain or discomfort, and doesn't seem to be growing, it's probably nothing to worry about.
Still, it's always better to err on the side of caution, so if you're ever in doubt, it's always best to consult with a medical professional.
3. You're losing weight without trying
If you've noticed that the numbers on the scale are steadily dropping, even though you're eating and exercising the same as usual, it could be a sign of an underlying health condition. Many illnesses can cause sudden weight loss, so it's important to speak with a doctor if you notice this change in your body.
4. You have persistent stomach pain
Stomach pain is fairly common, and usually, nothing to worry about. However, if the pain is severe or lasts for more than a few days, it could be a sign of something more serious, such as appendicitis or inflammatory bowel disease.
5. You have trouble catching your breath
If you find yourself short of breath after doing activities that used to be easy for you, it could be a sign of heart or lung disease. Don't ignore this symptom--make an appointment with your doctor so they can run some tests and get to the bottom of what's going on.
6. You have persistent back pain
Back pain is another common ailment, but it can also be a sign of something more serious, such as kidney problems or even cancer.
7. You have chronic headaches
Most of us get the occasional headache, but if you're getting them regularly, it could be a sign of a more serious problem. For example, migraines can be caused by everything from stress to sleep disorders, so it's important to see a doctor if you're struggling with chronic headaches.
8. You're always tired
If you're regularly exhausted, even after a full night's sleep, it could be a sign of an underlying health condition. Many things can cause fatigue, such as anemia, thyroid problems, and even depression.
9. You have strange bruising or bleeding
Bruising and bleeding are perfectly normal if you sustain a cut or injury, but if you're bruising or bleeding for no apparent reason, it could be a sign of a blood disorder.
10. You have abnormal vaginal discharge
If you're experiencing abnormal vaginal discharge--that is, discharge that's new in appearance or smell--it could be a sign of an infection. Many different kinds of infections can cause abnormal discharge, so it's important to see a doctor if you notice this change. They can prescribe the appropriate medication and get you on the road to recovery!
These are just a few of the subtle signs that may indicate you need to see a doctor. Remember, it's always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health! If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to make an appointment with your physician.
