Several months into quarantine and we really still don’t know the real extent of the pandemic. We’ve started to witness its grave impact on the economy, but who’s to say where bottom is. 


The uncertainty and the constant changes in regulations has forced business owners and leaders into making the most difficult decisions of their careers – the kind that has human lives directly on the line. But as the saying goes, “In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity.” COVID-19 proves no different. 


This crisis provides businesses the chance to pivot, innovate, and create real and lasting change. With women bearing the brunt of the coronavirus crash – among other inequalities inherited from history – there is much to learn from different perspectives to accelerate progress towards achieving more inclusive business practices.


This report by WeEmpowerAsia, a UN Women program, shares semi-structured interviews with 65 private sector CEOs and leaders in Asia-Pacific and Europe on how the pandemic has affected businesses and women.

We put it under the spotlight because understanding how they steered their responses to COVID-19, while protecting women employees and maintaining business continuity is important. It serves as a guide for us all to create and cultivate a more inclusive culture in the workplace and in the wider community.


While we're reminded of all the work that has been done, we look forward and focus on the work that still has to be done.
